Out of 12 jyotirlingam (Jyoti: Radiance + Lingam: Image of Shiva) of Lord Shiva, Kedarnath is one of the most sacred one. Every year lakhs of pilgrims visit the divine place with utmost zeal and passion. At an altitude of 3550 m Kedarnath is located in the snow laden mountains of Himalayas at the bank of river Mandakini in Uttarakhand. Due to extreme weather conditions and rough terrain it is accessible to worshippers for 4-5 months in a year only.
There are various stories related to the temple and the place and has been mentioned numerous times in the Hindu mythology and their scriptures. Stories related to the Pandavas and Lord Shiva are the most heard and talked about. Inside the temple, Pooja ceremony is performed twice, once early in the morning and the other in the evening. Best time to visit Kedarnath temple
Kedarnath is cold for the most part of the year, however, April to June and September to October are the best times to visit it as during the month of Karthik (late October and November) due to heavy snowfall, the idol of Lord Kedar is brought out of the temple and shifted to Urvi math, a place located deep in the valley.

The average temperature of this place remains between 10 to 15 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature may sometime go below zero degree. Kedarnath is among the places where summers are pleasant and winters are extremely cold. This holy city of Lord Shiva has visiting time of around 4-5 months in a year due to extreme climate in winters as well as during rainy seasons.
Day 1 Sahastradhara - Guptkashi / Kedarnath / Guptkashi - Sahastradhara
You leave Sahastradhara around 11 am for Guptkash. The flight takes about 35 min. Here according to govt. regulation, you will have to change your helicopter for Kedarnath. Arrive at Kedarnath and proceed directly to the temple which is situated at a distance of about 400 mtrs from the helipad. After darshan return to Guptkashi for your return trip to Sahastradhara.
Arrive at Sahastradhara and tour ends.
